MISTER CONSISTENCY / A WORKING EDUCATIONAL STUDY

The manuscript, the translation
and the imagined space.

Working integration build · v2.5. The reader and map are functional experiments, not a completed scholarly edition. Existing passage associations and annotation geometry remain under review.

What the images actually show

The 37 sheet images in this build come from the 1894 printed facsimile of the Papyrus of Ani, digitized by Heidelberg University Library. They are scans of a facsimile publication, not new photographs of the original papyrus. The source identification and image rights designation were inherited from the project records and will be checked before public release.

Three different kinds of statement

Source text: the historical English translation and vignette descriptions by E. A. Wallis Budge (1895), retained separately from our explanations. Editorial commentary: the guide, spell summaries and proposed passage-to-place links. Visual invention: the cylindrical archive, rings, stairs, compartments, coordinates, light panels and optional study route.

The map is a spatial index for exploration. It must not be read as a recovered Egyptian building, a geographical survey, or proof of an obligatory sequence through the afterlife. Its five thematic groups are inherited organizational choices, not five documented physical levels. Gold means “selected context,” not a historically certain position for Ani. The optional dashed study route is editorial and is initially off.

The historical translation

The build uses Budge’s 1895 text as transcribed by the Internet Sacred Text Archive. It retains his spellings and wording. It is not presented as a modern critical translation. New explanations must be distinguishable from that source, and uncertain readings must remain uncertain rather than being silently modernized.

What a click establishes—and what it does not

A click identifies an annotated region and opens the passage assigned to it in the project dataset. It does not establish a word-for-word decipherment of each hieroglyph. Some column numbers were interpolated; some refer to printed transcription lines rather than original papyrus columns; some pictures use approximate boundaries. These limitations are recorded in the original project notes and remain open audit items.

The 16 existing place records and their descriptions have been retained rather than rewritten without evidence. A place with no assigned passage is an empty mapping in this dataset—not evidence of textual absence. Existing links are not yet independently verified. Research release will require source references, an explicit review status, and a stated basis for every public map association.

The visual reference

Scott supplied stills and short filmed clips of the computer archive / Temple of Eternal Night sequence in Blade (1998). The green translucent architecture, black field and axial rings inform the interface’s appearance. The film is not a source for Egyptian religion. This site bundle contains no movie frames, footage, copied film glyphs or generated concept-art textures. Blank blue panels are interface geometry, not claimed inscriptions.

What is implemented in this milestone

The new model consists of programmatically generated triangle meshes, surface normals, a perspective camera, depth-tested surface rendering and translucent archive rendering through WebGL. It supports orbit, zoom, pan, a camera-facing cutaway, context markers and an optional study route. If WebGL cannot initialize, the prior vector map provides an explicit fallback with the reader links intact.

Finding and sharing a passage

Search covers the bundled passage titles, spell identifiers, historical text and editorial spell notes. Shared links identify a block with #b=7-7 and optionally an annotated column with &c=6. This column index is one-based and is not a claim that Budge’s printed number matches the original column exactly. Older sheet links such as #sheet-3 are retained.

Static hosting and privacy

The study uses local JavaScript, local web-sized facsimile images and the browser’s own graphics functions. It has no remote rendering service, account system, analytics snippet, external font download, service worker or third-party runtime dependency. Source links open external publications only when selected. Analytics may be added by the parent site during integration.

Before public release

The remaining checks include the full scan-alignment review, verification of map associations against sources, clearer passage-specific provenance, final visual modeling, keyboard and real-device testing, performance budgets and deployment verification. This page is deliberately marked not to be indexed while those release gates are open.
