The ledger of the world

A three-dimensional model is a chain of claims. This page is the chain: for each place, every feature the model shows and the statement that justifies it, in Budge's 1895 Papyrus of Ani or in an admitted witness, or the admission that nothing does.

Filling the gapsThe sourcing workstream

Scott's instruction (2026-10-06): a complete, coherent world with no gaps, filled from alternative sources, cited. Nothing enters the model from outside the Papyrus of Ani until it has passed four steps.

  1. Sourcing. For each gap below, a candidate passage is located in a named public-domain edition: manuscript, spell, edition, volume, page, with a link to the scan or transcription. Astra (ChatGPT) does the locating and transcribing and ships the result as a package with SHA-256 hashes, as for the study.
  2. Translation. The passage is taken in a public-domain English translation (Budge 1898 or 1905, Renouf and Naville 1904). Where only a copyrighted modern translation exists, it is paraphrased and cited, never reproduced.
  3. Cross-examination. Every physical description that would shape the model is compared across at least two translations (Budge against Renouf, and against Faulkner or Allen where they differ). Disagreement on a dimension, a count or a material downgrades the feature to contested, and the model shows the contest.
  4. Review. Before a passage enters this ledger, a fresh check confirms it exists at the cited location, by opening the source. Figures get the plain second check. Then the feature is built, labelled with its source class: witness for another Book of the Dead manuscript, cognate for a related composition such as the Amduat or the Book of Gates.

Admitted so far

G1, the fourteen Aats of the Papyrus of Nu (Spells 149 and 150), from Astra's package bod-world-sources-v1 of 2026-10-06: 109 statements, every one given a decision in the admission record. Budge's pages were read against the facsimile and every Renouf and Naville reading was found in the Gutenberg text before admission. The unit behind "measures", the Egyptian numerals behind the contested crop heights and the identity of the Lake of Fire remain open.

G2 to G4, from Astra's package bod-world-sources-v2.1 of 2026-10-06: Spell 146 split by witness (the Papyrus of Nu to pylon XIV, Heru-em-khebit from XV, Ani's ten alongside), Spell 144 in Nu beside Ani's 147, and the door of the Hall part by part from the Nu conclusion of Spell 125, with the four repeated confessions of Ani's list read in Budge's interlinear. 105 statements (44 agreed, 32 single-witness, 29 contested), every one given a decision in the admission record: 26 already, 16 outline, 45 card, 2 lead, 12 label, 4 annotation. Budge's nineteen pages were read against the facsimile, every Renouf reading was found on its page in the Gutenberg text, and the 1895 interlinear was read in the Internet Archive text layer. No Nu copy of Spell 147 was found in the editions searched. The unit behind "measures" (Aat IV, pylon IX) remains open; Lepsius's forty-cubit schoinion in Naville's note is a lead, not a conversion.

G5, from Astra's package bod-world-sources-v3.1 of 2026-10-07: Spell 110 as Budge's 1898 volume gives it, from the Papyrus of Nebseni, beside Ani's own, with Nu's Spell 109 as the context for the crop figures. 72 statements (44 single-witness, 19 contested, 9 agreed), every one given a decision in the admission record: 10 overlay, 25 already, 35 card, 2 label. Budge's eight pages were read against the facsimile, every Renouf reading was found on its page in the Gutenberg text, and the 1895 notes were located in the Internet Archive text layer. Nebseni's Field is drawn as a witness overlay with invented sizes; no source gives an island breadth or a river width, and the thousand by two thousand of p. 173 is a hawk.
